The excitement builds as Disney has officially announced the premiere date for its soon-to-be-released live-action interpretation of the beloved classic, Lilo & Stitch. Audiences can expect the movie to premiere in cinemas on May 23, 2025.
Earlier this year, during a high-profile D23 event, Disney indicated that the live-action adaptation would be launching for the first time in the summer of 2025. This presentation also provided fans with a first look at the CGI rendition of Stitch, which has generated considerable anticipation.
In addition to Lilo & Stitch, the studio confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday, featuring the reunion of Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, is scheduled for release on August 8, 2025. Both films are set to contribute to a bustling summer movie season, appealing to diverse audiences.
Lilo & Stitch is set to launch alongside Mission: Impossible 8 over the same weekend, while Marvel's Thunderbolts is slated for a May 2 release, along with a new installment in the Karate Kid series. Following these titles, audiences can expect a slew of additional exciting releases, including a spinoff of John Wick titled Ballerina, Pixar's Elio, a live-action adaptation of How to Prepare Your Dragon for action, among other exciting experiences.
The role of Lilo will be portrayed by newcomer Maia Kealoha, while Chris Sanders, who played a pivotal role in creating the original film, returns to voice Stitch. Dean Fleischer Camp, known for Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is expected to take the helm as director. Although details on the storyline remain limited, it is expected to mirror the core narrative of the 2002 animated classic, which tells the story of young Lilo as she adopts the alien Experiment 626, fostering a deep connection with this once-feared creature who was engineered to wreak havoc.
