This review examines the latest performance of a popular classic game on the new ROG handheld PC, revealing how recent updates have transformed the overall experience. The device was recently evaluated with two different gaming models, one available at a lower price point and a more advanced version with better performance. During our tests in multiple locations, several issues emerged with the underlying Windows 11 system, including unresponsive commands and absent on-screen keyboards. Many initial problems could be linked to compatibility and optimization challenges that may improve with future system patches.

After the official launch, further testing was conducted on titles from major gaming libraries. One standout title, a gothic iteration of a legendary franchise, has dramatically improved when comparing the pre-update version running in a limited window to its revised edition delivered only days later. The transformation is so remarkable that It appears that the game has been entirely reinvented under the hood.

A list of observed improvements and ongoing challenges follows:

  • A renowned driving adventure now performs much more smoothly. Previously experienced issues such as intermittent freezes and unexpected pause menus have been remedied, thanks in part to system updates that have stabilized gameplay.

  • An imaginative adventure set in a mysterious lighthouse environment now functions but still struggles with visual glitches like intermittent black flickers, along with noticeable frame rate drops and brief interruptions.

  • An anticipated sequel from a celebrated developer has encountered issues, lacking the performance enhancements seen in other titles. It has repeatedly crashed during our trials and may require additional adjustments after its market debut to offer a more reliable experience.

  • Another classic game, beloved for its survival horror elements, installs and begins correctly but unexpectedly shuts down when gameplay is initiated, indicating that further refinements are necessary.

Overall, while the improved performance in some games is promising, certain titles continue to face substantial hurdles on the device. The experience of these handheld PCs is evolving, and future updates are expected to address many of the ongoing optimization issues.
