As Deadpool and Wolverine makes their debut in the MCU, a new chapter is unfolding for Marvel fans. The introduction of these iconic characters is setting the stage for what is being termed the 'Mutant Era' within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Kevin Feige, Deadpool and Wolverine are heralding a new era for the MCU. During a press conference, Feige remarked that the inclusion of characters from the X-Men universe, particularly the Mutants, marks the beginning of this period. Following the release of 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' every subsequent film will integrate elements from this newfound 'Mutant Era.'
The upcoming Deadpool movie not only brings Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine but also introduces an injured Wolverine who meets Deadpool during his recovery. The two former adversaries join forces to tackle a common foe, albeit with plenty of physical altercations between them. This film signifies Wolverine’s inaugural appearance in the MCU, opening doors for an influx of X-Men characters and potentially leading to a stand-alone MCU movie. It's important to note, however, that X-Men: 97, despite its appeal, is not considered part of the MCU canon.
Directed by Shawn Levy, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, the cast of the third Deadpool movie features Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova and Matthew Macfayden as TVA agent Paradox. Returning actors will include Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, and Brianna Hildebrand, with Aaron Stanford portraying Pyro, Tyler Mane as Sabretooth, and Jennifer Garner revisiting her role as Elektra from 2005. Dafne Keen also reprises her role as X-23 from Logan.
The much-anticipated film is set to release in theaters on July 26, with an earlier release on July 25 in the UK.
